A new argument could influence Trump’s decision on withdrawing from the Paris accord.  A legal doctrine that is centuries old has been advanced for leaving, but one could argue that we violate that doctrine simply by failing to cooperate with a vital program that is wanted by almost every other nation.  This post has a good update on all of the issues involved, for a truly big decision that one man must be making very soon.  I think Trump would like to do something that would make the right wing happy but will end up taking the advice of his secretary of state, who after all was formerly the CEO of Exxon.

What is the major temperature trend for the Antarctic Peninsula?  This has confused people because there was an apparent cooling trend for 17 years from 1998 through 2015, much like that of the planet as a whole.  As shown on these charts going back to 1950 the hiatus has ended and the gross amount of warming trend, as in the Arctic, has noticeably exceeded that of the full planet..

What happens to old offshore oil drilling platforms when their service life is over?  For one in the stormy North Atlantic this turned out to be quite an adventure, deserving of a lengthy narrative.  One can hope that NOVA made it to the scene to create a TV show.
