Climate Letter #292

December 9, 2014

Another disturbing methane report. This looks like the bare beginning of what could eventually become a serious component of carbon overload in the atmosphere, from a source not predicted in most models. Note the role played by the warming of deeper ocean water, a fact that has been uncovered here by studying four decades of extensive data points. Heat that has been transported from the surface to ocean depths does not simply disappear, but can soon come back to haunt us.
