Comment:  Environmentally speaking, since we only have one planet, one of the problems with the Western lifestyle, aside from its widespread attraction, is that everywhere you look once people get started moving up they never want to stop.

How accurate are climate models?  Near the beginning of this post from an AGU meeting is a brief video comparing data charts of a number of early temperature prediction models with actual results.  The models were amazingly accurate, except for a small group represented by noted contrarians.  Keep in mind that 2016 was an exceptional year because of the strong El Nino, sending it temporarily off trend by about 0.2 degree.

Temperatures in Siberia recently dropped to minus 62C, equal to minus 80F.  The Siberian Times has some good pictures of what life is like under such conditions.  (Actually there is much to love.)  The cold air got pushed in when the higher Arctic was experiencing its heatwave.
